Yay new signs!!  After a year of old signage we have finally gotten our new highway sign put up and it turned out great!  The sign is located on the corner of Hwy 97 and Commercial Drive underneath the Subway sign.  We hope to get the final storefront signage completed this summer..... can't wait!

Okanagan Pizza Nominated For Kelowna's Best Pizza

We are proud to announce that Okanagan Pizza is now in the top ten running for welcome to Kelowna's Best of Kelowna 2013.  Thank you so much Kelowna, now we need your help by voting for us please!

 

The voting for the “Best of Kelowna 2013” from the successful nominees will begin on April 29th at 8:00 am. Voters will be able to vote for their favourites by completing the online voting form. In order to vote, you will need to register on the site with an email address or by logging in with your Facebook account. One vote, per category, per person.

Voting will be open from Monday, April 29th at 8:00 am PST for a period of 19 days and will close on Friday, May 17th at noon.
Winners will be announced online on Monday, June 11th at 2pm PST at bestof.welcometokelowna.com. Winners will also be announced in a print magazine entitled “Best of Kelowna 2013”.

Voting Procedure

• Voters will need to either register with a valid email address, use their current WelcometoKelowna.com registration, or their Facebook account to vote.
• One vote, per person, per category.

New and Improved Veggie Pizza

We spend a lot of time analysing our menu trying to figure out just what we can do to make our selection better and improve on existing menu items. With many people trying to lead a healthier lifestyle and eat more vegetables, we have really taken a close look at our vegetarian pizza options. The one pizza that stood out to us that needed changing was the Veggie.

Our Veggie Pizza now has the freshest Onions, Mushrooms, and Green Peppers, then we top it off with Spinich, black olives, and Roma Tomatos. And don't think that we are set in our ways, if you have a preference in how you would like it made, let us know and we will help you build your own masterpiece. Our goal is for you to have the best pizza experience!

Happy Anniversary Okanagan Pizza!

Well we have officially hit our One year anniversary on Saturday Feb 16/2013.  It has been quite the year since we took over Okanagan Pizza (formally OKPIZZA).  It has been a lot of work changing the pizza into something we can really call ours!  We have been very busy trying to make the absolute best crust we can produce.  With all of the struggles with our previous ways of cooking our pizza on a screen, we decided to change to a pan pizza in Sept.  Our customers have given us incredible feedback on the changes.  The change took us from having a very crispy crust that tended to get tough when it started to cool, to a crust that is nicely thick and very soft and chewy! 

Although the crust is one of the most important qualities in producing a great pizza, almost as important is a great sauce!  We have had a lot of fun testing sauce recipes. A good sauce should have tons of flavor and still taste fresh.  We have consumed many, MANY pizzas trying to perfect our sauce and I think we are getting there! ;)

Being a VERY BIG cheese lover, I feel obligated to say you can't have a good pizza without a great cheese.  We found qualities in our old cheese that didn't enjoy, so We contacted a new distributor and had a Cheese Taste off.  Testing multiple pizza mozzarella's against the old variety and found one we are very happy with. We have been and will be testing many different cheese combinations this year to see if we can find a truly unique taste combination.  I think I might like that part!

Everybody loves Pepperoni Pizza

 Well it looks as though winter is finally amongst us.  Roads are slippery, its thinking of getting cold outside, Christmas has passed and we are into a new year! HAPPY NEW YEARS!! (a little late I know...lol)  We have been searching lately for ideas for our new menu, and doing so has brought me to many wonder picture sights, and looked at countless pictures of delicious looking pizza!  I t has really made me feel the need to post a few of our pizza's.  The ones that don't get as much thrill and excitement but are almost always the first to get ordered every time.  The picture above is our Double Pepperoni, a basic pizza with loads of fresh pepperoni covered with our finest cheese.  "That doesn't look like a regular pepperoni pizza" you may say as the Pepperoni should be on the top of the cheese.  I have tried multiple different pepperoni types.  The dry cured pepperoni that most of you are familiar with, are the little circles "the classic pepperoni pizza"!  We tried these out, as for flavour it is really hard to beat, very strong delicious flavour. We found this pepperoni to be far to greasy , so we have gone with the big rounds that when under the cheese bring out far more of their natural flavor.

So what, exactly, is pepperoni? Pepperoni got its name from the Italian word "peperoni" meaning large peppers as in bell peppers. The first reference to pepperoni in print is from 1919, Which was the period when pizzerias and Italian butcher shops began to flourish in the united states. They started producing a spicy italian-american variety of dry salami made of pork and beef. Pepperoni is a descendant of the spicy salamis of southern Italy. It is an air-dried spicy sausage with a few distinctive characteristics: it is fine-grained, lightly smoky, bright red and relatively soft. But one thing it is not: Italian. 

Since pepperoni was introduced it has quickly become the most popular pizza topping in north America. Americans consume an average of 251,000,000 pounds every year! That means that 36% of the pizzas that are sold every year have the pepperoni on them!

Pepperoni is one of those wonderful meats that go with almost any topping.  Shown above is one of our MENU items. This is a Pepperoni, Mushroom, and Green Pepper Pizza.  Which is a very popular choice for Kelowna Pizza eaters!  One of our most popular pepperoni pizzas would be the Canadian Pizza. It is simply pepperoni, topped with mushrooms, mozzarella, and real bacon! It is a real favorite around here!
